HIV/AIDS and Black/African Americans

  • Non-Hispanic Black or African Americans were diagnosed with HIV infection at more than seven times the rate of non-Hispanic whites in 2022.1
    • Non-Hispanic Black or African American males were 7.6 times more likely to have a diagnosis of HIV infection than non-Hispanic white males in 2022.
    • o Non-Hispanic Black or African American females were 10 times more likely than non-Hispanic white females to have a diagnosis of HIV infection.
  • In 2022, the rate of AIDS in non-Hispanic Black or African American females was 18 times the rate of AIDS in non-Hispanic white females.2
  • Non-Hispanic Black or African American males were 6.4 times more likely than non-Hispanic white males to die with HIV infection.3
  • In 2022, non-Hispanic Black or African Americans were nearly seven times more likely than non-Hispanic whites to die of AIDS.4
