Baby Buggy Walk in the Park – Sample Sponsor Letter

Dear Sponsor:

Baltimore Healthy Start, Inc. entered its 22nd year in 2013 and we have exciting things planned. We would like you to consider sponsoring our 2nd Baby Buggy Walk in the Park to be held September 21, 2013, at Druid Hill Park Lake.

In 1991, the federal government funded 15 healthy start projects and Baltimore Healthy Start became, and still is, the only federally funded infant mortality reduction program in the state of Maryland. Over the years, Healthy Start has engaged over 15,000 families and improved birth outcomes among its participants to meet the Healthy People 2020 federal guidelines for infant mortality.

While the infant mortality rate is generally declining across the nation and in Maryland, it remains high in Baltimore especially among African American residents. In 2011, black infants in the city had a rate of 14.5 deaths per 1,000 live births — nearly four times higher than white babies born in the city.

September is Infant Mortality Awareness Month and each year, Baltimore Healthy Start holds a client activity in recognition of this cause. This year‘s Baby Buggy Walk in the Park will be a national event in multiple cities across the nation – including Baltimore. The event will bring together clients and their families, dedicated staff and members of the community to walk 1.5 miles with babies in buggies. In an effort to engage pregnant and postpartum women and their families in healthy activities, we have planned additional healthy activities. These include a healthy lunch, contests, and arts and crafts. See photos from the event at http://bit.ly/12TqJhv Exit Disclaimer.

Last year’s Baby Buggy Walk in the Park got national attention and has become an annual event that eventually can bring revenue into the organization. This year, in addition to the Office of Minority Health Resource Center, our presenting sponsor, we are pleased that United Healthcare will also sponsor this event. Please join these sponsors in making this year’s event the best one yet.

If you require additional information, please contact us directly at 410-396-7318 or Francine Tucker at 410-576-8804. On behalf of the Board of Directors, staff and clients, we thank you in advance for your consideration.

Sincerely,
