HRAC Highlights

hrac members and fedsThe HRAC held its first meeting in May 2006 and has continued to hold meetings one to three times per year along with quarterly conference calls.

The HRAC Charter was developed and ratified in June of 2008.

The HRAC held Town Hall type meetings in August 2008 at the Annual Native Health Research Conference and September 2008 at the National Indian Health Board Annual Consumer Conference.

A discussion guide was developed and sent out via HRAC Delegates to their respective Areas to gather health research priorities. The results were presented during the Annual HRAC Meeting in April 2009.

The HRAC has prepared and submitted HRAC Recommendations for Comparative Effectiveness Research, HHS Recommendations to the Secretary, testimony for the Annual HHS Tribal Budget and Policy Consultation Sessions, and comments to the Joint Commission on cultural competence requirements for hospital accreditation.

The HRAC hosted Research Roundtables in 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2014 that brought together HRAC members, Native researchers, EpiCenter representatives and Federal partners to discuss health research priorities for AI/AN communities.

The HRAC has produced Annual HRAC Reports, which include chronological accounts of events that led to the Council’s creation and continues through the current Fiscal Year activities. The report also includes recommendations the Council has made regarding relevant American Indian and Alaska Native health and research topics.

The HRAC has also produced Annual Health Research Reports which represent a compilation of findings related to important health research topics in American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) communities. These reports serve as a resource to share research findings with Tribes. It includes relevant submissions from various HHS operating and staff divisions, as well as HHS grantees
