Local data from states with high populations of Native Hawaiians/Pacific Islanders may be useful in illustrating disparities among certain populations. Heart-related health issues vary among various Asian and Pacific Islander sub-populations.
- In Hawaii, Native Hawaiians are 1.7 times as likely to die from heart disease as Whites.
- In 2009, Native Hawaiians/Pacific Islanders were three times more likely to be diagnosed with coronary hearth disease, as compared to non-Hispanic Whites.
- Native Hawaiians/Pacific Islanders are 70 percent more likely to have high blood pressure as their White counterparts.
