- Native Hawaiians/Pacific Islanders (NHOPI) are 30% more likely to be diagnosed with cancer, as compared to non-Hispanic Whites.
- American Samoan women are twice as likely to be diagnosed with, and to die from, cervical cancer, as compared to non-Hispanic Whites.
- American Samoan men are eight times more likely to develop liver cancer, and Native Hawaiian men are 2.4 times more likely to be diagnosed with the same disease, as compared to non-Hispanic Whites.
- In Hawaii, Native Hawaiian men have the highest mortality rate (220.1) for all types of cancer, as compared to other ethnic groups in the state.1
- Also in Hawaii, Native Hawaiian women have the highest incidence rate (463.6) for all types of cancer, as compared to other ethnic groups in the state.1
- In the U.S. territory of Guam, the incidence rate for liver cancer was 6.7 times higher in the Micronesian population, as compared to the national U.S.population (38.2 and 5.8 respectively), from 2003-2007.2
