The National HIV/AIDS Strategy (NHAS) was released by the White House on July 13, 2010 as the nation’s first ever comprehensive coordinated HIV/AIDS road map with clear and measurable targets to be achieved by 2015.

As a way to support the NHAS, the Office of Minority Health (OMH) has incorporated a “Facing AIDS” photo event at the National Council of La Raza National Latino Family Expo, taking place in Washington DC on July 23 through July 25.

Conference attendees, and everyone else outside the conference, can participate by taking a picture with a sign that includes a personal message about why you support the NHAS. For those not attending the conference, signs can be downloaded from the link provided on this page.

The photo and your message can then be uploaded to AIDS.gov’s Flickr group at http://www.flickr.com/groups/nhas/ . You can also share your photo with friends and family by posting it on your personal website, Facebook, Twitter or any other social networking site of your choice.

By taking part in the Facing AIDS photo activity and sharing your photos and messages, you help address the stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS, encourage people to get tested, and make the strategy real in our communities. Let’s help make our country a place where new infections are uncommon and where people who are infected can get quality and life-preserving care!

Please note: by uploading your photo to http://www.flickr.com/groups/nhas/ , you are giving AIDS.gov and OMH permission to use these photos in any AIDS.gov and OMH materials (web, video, print, or other).

We encourage you to title your photo using the language from your "National HIV/ AIDS Strategy" or "La Estrategia Nacional para el VIH/SIDA" sign and to tag the photo with "HIV," "Facing AIDS," "National HIV AIDS Strategy," or "La Estrategia Nacional para el VIH/SIDA"-- this helps people to find your photos on Flickr.
