Hispanic Physicians' Leadership Development Initiative (HPLD)

The Office of Minority Health awarded $250,000 in funds to support the Hispanic Physicians' Leadership Development Initiative through a cooperative agreement. The purpose of this cooperative agreement is to enhance the health status and promote healthy lifestyles of Hispanics and other underserved minority communities in the United States. The primary activity to be implemented through this cooperative agreement is development of the professional capacity of Hispanics working in medical professions to promote education, development, research, leadership, training, and community partnerships that enhance the health status of Hispanics in the United States.

The Hispanic Physicians' Leadership Development Initiative supports the development of a national leadership program designed to increase the number of Hispanic students/professionals pursuing advanced degrees and entering health professions schools, create and expand health professions faculty development programs, support health disparities and prevention research, develop health communication programs aimed at Hispanics and other underserved minority populations, create a Hispanic health database and develop and maintain a Hispanic Health Portal.
