Description of Organization:
Health and Hospital Corporation of Marion County (HHC), is a municipal corporation and political subdivision of the State of Indiana that operates Marion County Health Department and Wishard Health Services. HHC is mandated by Indiana General Assembly to provide medical services to all residents of Marion County regardless of ability to pay. The mission of HHC is to make Marion County the healthiest community in the United States through the values of community, leadership, excellence and respect for the individual. MCHD provides a variety of public health services related to population and environmental health.
Description of project:
The Bilingual/Bicultural Indianapolis Healthy Start (BBIHS) project will be implemented under the auspices of HHC. Marion County Health Department’s Indianapolis Healthy Start will partner with Hispanic Health Resources to provide culturally appropriate outreach, health education and case management services to reduce infant mortality in the Hispanic community. The two health educators and one case manager for the BBIHS project will be located at Wishard Health Services’ Hispanic Health Resources. Hispanic Health Resources’ goal is to increase access to health care to the Indianapolis Hispanic community by assisting patients with obtaining health care services and other support services.
