OVERVIEW
Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) is the most common blood-borne infection in the United States, with an estimated 5 million people testing positive. Hepatitis C respects no demographic, therefore anyone is at risk for acquiring this viral disease. Injection drug use accounts for more than two-thirds of all new HCV infections in the United States. Opioid Treatment Programs, needle and syringe exchange programs, and comprehensive risk-modifying educational programs have been shown to be effective in preventing HIV transmission and are likely to be useful for decreasing HCV transmissions.
TRAINING LOGISTICS
The American Association for the Treatment of Opioid Dependence, Inc. in collaboration with the Hepatitis C Association is providing Hepatitis C Training for Opioid Treatment Providers across the nation. This FREE training, funded by The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration/Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (SAMHSA/CSAT) provides Hepatitis C education and supportive materials in an effort to decrease HCV transmission and to better serve patients with Hepatitis C.
