Asian and Pacific Islander heritage has been officially celebrated for the last 25 years. It began when President Jimmy Carter signed a joint resolution to declare the first Asian Pacific Heritage Week as May 4-10, 1979. Then, 11 years later, an official extension made this week-long celebration into a month-long event. On October 23, 1992, May was officially designated as the time to celebrate Asian Pacific Islander heritage.

Pacific Communities in Action - The Pacific Project
This initiative focuses on building the ability of organizations and community leaders to partner with their local and regional health departments to strategically address HIV/AIDS/TB/STDs throughout the Pacific.
