Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month
A Proclamation by the President of the United States of America. Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month has been officially celebrated in the United States for more than a quarter century. It began when President Jimmy Carter signed a joint resolution to declare the first Asian Pacific Heritage Week as May 4 - 10, 1979. Then, 11 years later, an official extension made this week-long celebration into a month-long event. On October 23, 1992, May was officially designated as Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.
